I don't think it was dumb at all! But it makes me cry every time I watch that sean seriosly! The book will make me cry really bad I bet. And it was not north America it was the undieing lands A.K.A. Valinor.
you know in the book the silvar chair (sixth book in the chronicals of nania) there are some caves north of narnia that have a huge giant and many monsters that were also prophised to come back to life then in the last battle ( seventh and fianl book) the monsters do jus that and the gian squishes the sun destroying it and ending the world of narnia

if sam was to go at the same time as frodo that wouldn't have been as bad of an ending
Sam not going at the same time was intentional. It added to the emotion and sadness that Sam was feeling. It would have ruined the effect if Sam had gone with them.

The last thing in the apendex says Sam departs over the sea as the last ring bearer. That is just how it is somtimes. People die befor other people. It could be a posability.
