What do the Lamps do?

Hey I know about the lamps and how they were created but, are they like geni lamps or what kind of lamps, and what do they do are the destructive do they hold the fate of Arda like the Silmarils or what? So ya please discribe this to be in good detail please.

I don't know much about those ages. The only thing I know is that they made light in the realm of Arda.

Ya! I wish it was read more like the lord of the rings books though and not like a legend. How you know you follow the story of the characters in third person.

There is just so much information packed into that thing. To turn it into a novel would make almost every sentence almost a whole chapter all on it's own!

the silmarilion rules i think it is worth the read some parts are boring but you arent a true tolkien fan until you've read it
