How dare you that is like saying God in real life in the bible never did anything. His will is in everthing that happens in Arda just like in real life with God.
He has done many things. Though he could be called a "couch potato", he never lets things get too out of hand. That is his job. What would you have him do?

hehe i think the will of iluvatar is in play alot in the books like the choice given to the half elven whether to be jugded as elf or man and the revival of beren and the banishment of morgoth for just a couple of examples

Yep. I believe that Eru is involved in the will of everything. Even in the choices of all the characters of The Lord of The Rings. Plus Sir Cody. If Eru went around smiting everybody then there would be no story. Plus Eru does destroy Numenor and trap the unfaithful in the forgotten caves.
